Multiscale

The video below demonstrates the design of a system to enable real-time visualization and interaction with multi-modal data representing very large and high-dimensional datasets (2D, 3D, and 4D) within immersive environments utilizing ultra-high resolution displays connected by high-bandwidth low-latency networks to facilitate distributed collaboration.

Users can interactively explore ultra-high resolution imaging data of the nervous system that bridges scales spanning centimeters to nanometers. This data traverses across whole brain slices, the cerebellum, and single cells, to parts of cells (dendritic branches and spines) and drills down to the level within subcellular organelles in the interior of the mitochondrion. The biological structures in this immersive/interactive visualization span the dynamic multi-scale processes at the heart of information processing in the nervous system.
